Toothpaste leading to antibiotic resistance

Most of us might be aware that Triclosan is an active ingredient used in Toothpaste. Triclosan is an antibiotic and antifungal ingredient found in almost 2000 consumer products. But this ingredient might not be as harmless as we think. However, a study in University of Queensland of Australia has found out something fishy about the substance. It was proved that Triclosan could resist the effect of antibiotics and could create a superbug. “These chemicals are used in much larger quantities at an everyday level, so you end up with high residual levels in the wider environment, which can induce multi-drug resistance,” said Mr. Guo who is the leading scientist of this research.
