GHMC Elections not before December?

The GHMC Board current term was completed in December last year and the Telangana government told the High Court that it can’t conduct the elections till December this year. The Attorney General of the state has stated this in an affidavit submitted to the court today. He said at least 8 months’ time is needed to complete reorganization process of the GHMC Wards. But, the court refuses to grant 8 months’ time to prolong the GHMC elections. It asks the AG to come with the elections schedule within next two weeks.

The state government is prolonging the GHMC elections taking excuse of reorganizing the wards because it is afraid to face the elections, allege the opposition parties. TDP and BJP have already hints that they will jointly contest the elections. TRS can’t ignore the Congress party also. Although, TRS has tie up with MIM, its influence is limited to old city only. The TRS is also not sure about the Andhra people settled in the twin cities. So, it is delaying the elections taking excuse of reorganizing the wards, alleges the opposition parties. But the ruling TRS party has to face the elections irrespective of its situation as the court refuses to extend the time to it any further.
