An incident where a section of a community burnt a religious flag in the early morning led to trouble and violent clashes among the two communities near the Sikh Chawni area close to Bahadurpura, in the Old City, Hyderabad in the early morning hours. The Hyderabad police were quick to descend on the area and tried to curb the clashes ,But that didn’t deter the mob from continuing to attack each other and properties in the surrounding areas which led to the police firing tear gas shells , despite that the crowd could not be controlled and as a last measure the police fired at the crowd, killing two people. They are yet to be identified.
As a result indefinite curfew has been imposed in the old city area coming under the Rajendranagar police station limits to keep the situation under control and Section 144 has also been imposed there as a precautionary measure. It is suspected to be a mischievous act to create communal tension in the old city but the Contingents of armed police and paramilitary forces who are in the city on election duty were quick to curb the violent mob and the situation has been brought to control.
