Advocate Purnima Bhatia, who appears for foreign ministry in Bombay Court, has made it clear that ‘An unwed mother has to declare how she conceived and also should submit an affidavit whether she was raped to have a passport for her child. She has to tell the reasons why she doesn’t want add child’s father’s name in the passport. She said these details are available in the passport manual, a classified document.

A woman has filed the petition in the court after the regional passport officer has refused to add her step father’s name in the passport. The officer suggested her to get the court order appointing him as her guardian for adding his name in her passport. When the court seeks foreign ministry explanation in this matter, its reply is very shocking.
