10 years jail for Nawaz Sharif

The anti corruption court in Islamabad has granted 10 years of jail for the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. His daughter Maryam Nawaz was also sentenced to seven years in jail and and son-in-law Safdar was awarded one-year jail term. These sentences were granted on the basis of Panama Papers, which alleged that Nawaz Sharif’s family has diverted their black money to London through offshore companies Nescoll and Nelson. Last year Mr Shariff has been removed from the seat of Prime Minister by the Supreme Court on the same charges. However, Nawaz Sharif was defiant that he has committed the crime and alleged that the ruling is politically motivated. His party has termed the judgement as bad ruling and said that the ruling would be challenged in the high court.
