In Delhi... one can rape and escape!

Delhi is not just our capital. It was even shamed as the Rape capital of India. The Delhi police and administration poses to be tough after the gang rape case of Nirbhaya in 2012, but nothing seems to have changed much. A quick check of statistics would ascertain the alarming nature of judgments in Delhi. HT, a national daily has pointed out that the rape accused in Delhi has 83% chance of being acquitted.

It was found that between January 2014 to March 2015... only 114 accused out of 665 were found guilty. There isn’t one reason to be pointed out for this shabby situation. Poor investigation, lack of forensic evidence, apathetic lawyers and hasty judgments all seem to conclude the cases. That might be the reason why only 17% of rapists in Delhi get convicted. This percentage was far behind the national average of 28%. That could be the reason why we hear a news of rape in Delhi now and then, and keep hearing them.
