Four dead in Australian theme park ride accident

In a horrific accident four people have been killed on a ride at a theme park on Australia's Gold Coast. A "malfunction" caused two of the victims to be "ejected" and two others to be "caught inside" the ride, Queensland Ambulance spokesperson Gavin Fuller said. The statement on Twitter from the Theme park read, "We are deeply shocked and saddened by today’s accident; our hearts and thoughts go to the families involved and their loved ones".

The park in Coomera has been closed and an investigation is under way, the spokeswoman added. "Dreamworld is working as quickly as possible to establish the facts around the incident and is working closely with emergency authorities and police to do this," the company said in the statement.

The Prime Minister said, "This is a very very sad and tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives. We trust there will be a very thorough investigation into the causes of this incident in the days that follow".
