The Parliament of Pakistan has passed a resolution asking the government to declare teenage rights activist Malala Yousufzai as the ‘Daughter of Pakistan’. The resolution was moved by one Qaimkhani of PPP.

Qaimkhani said that the 14-year-old girl had become a role model for the education of children across the world. It may be mentioned here that the resolution was passed just some hours after President Asif Ali Zardari had participated in the conference ‘Stand up for Malala, Girls education is a right’ held in Paris. Zardari describes the attack on Malala as the attack by the forces of darkness on the young and determined daughter of Pakistan. The president has visited Malala at a hospital at Birmingham in Britain before leaving for Paris.

The resolution said that the house gave great importance to the sacrifice made by Malala for the sake of education. ‘The young girl has stood for the right to education for the bright and progressive future of Pakistan. Malala deserves special recognition from the Parliament’, said Qaimkhani.

Malala was shot in the head by Taliban two months ago. The militants said that they had attacked her for espousing the western values and secularism.
