Did the Governor of state turned into a politician?
Updated : Dec 15, 2012
State Governor Narasimhan’s three-day visit to New Delhi leads to severe criticism from all the political parties in the state. While, TRS and its allies find fault with him for landing at New Delhi just ahead of the all party meeting on Telangana issue, other parties like CPI and CPM flays him for meeting Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi and party state political affairs in-charge Ghulhamnabhi Azad despite knowing that head of a state shouldn’t show any political interests.
Telangana leaders from all parties suspect him for reporting negative on Telangana issue, which they fears may impact the all party meeting and influence Sushil Kumar Shinde to prolong the Telangana issue. CPI and CPM flays him for behaving as a political agent of Congress party by meeting Sonia Gandhi and Ghulhamnabhi Azad.
More over, Narasimhan’s interaction with media after his meeting with all the biggies also leaves a negative impact on his personality. He made the media mouths fall open by asking ‘What is Constitution and what is politics?’
A Governor, who is assigned to ensure the implementation of Constitution in his state, asked the media what is Constitution. Naturally one would wonder whether he is ignorant of Constitution or he is just bluffing them by asking so.
Then, he grasped into controversy by stating that there is no urgency to take any decision on Dharmana Prasada rao’s issue pending with him, while the media reminding him that there is constitutional obligation of 3 months time limit for taking decisions on any such cases. For the first time after assuming as Governor of the state, Narasimhan find himself standing on the wrong side with his media interview.
However, according to reports apart from briefing about the state situation to Congress top brass, he is said to be sought their suggestions about Dharmana Prasada rao’s issue. If the sources are to be believed, he is going to push the matter onto Law Ministry’s table for further decision on whether to allow prosecution of Dharmana Prasada rao or not.
But, being the Governor of a state, he wouldn’t have ignored the ethics that he is expected to maintain always.
