Updated : Sep 13, 2016
Amid the violent protests over the Supreme Court's order to share Cauvery waters with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and mainly Bengaluru has turned into a fortress with over 15000 police men and officers deployed all over the city to control the menace being spread by agitated protesters. Around 270 Hoysala vehicles have also been deployed to avoid any untoward incidents. The Cauvery crisis has brought both the state of Karnataka and Bangalore to virtual standstill as protesters rampaged all across the city. With protests escalating the Bengaluru Police on Monday imposed Section 144 of the CRPC from 5 pm onwards, till September 14 meaning that no more than five people will be allowed to gather in public places in the city.
One person died and another received injuries after police opened fire on protesters in Bengaluru's Rajgopalnagar area on Monday evening. Violence in Karnataka & Tamil Nadu over Cauvery waters quite disturbing. This can't be justified on any ground said BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu. According to police over 55 buses and a dozen trucks bearing Tamil Nadu registration numbers were set on fire by the mob across Bengaluru. Several shops owned by Tamil speaking people were also attacked. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sent a letter to her Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah demanding security to Tamil-speaking people in Karnataka. Reports also said that early visuals from Tamil Nadu showed a petrol bomb being hurled at a famous Udupi restaurant.
