Sangma starts new party today

Former Lok Sabha speaker P.A.Sangma will start his new outfit today. It may be recalled that Sangma was defeated in the last presidential elections in the hands of Pranab Mukherjee. He has named his new party as ‘National Peoples Party’ and it will be launched in Delhi today.
The reports are such that his daughter Agatha Sangma may not join the party for present. She lost the job of junior union minister after she had campaigned for her father during the presidential elections. The associates of Sangma have announced that they would ask for ‘Book’ symbol for their new party in the next elections.
The 66 year Sangma has been the Chief Minister of Meghalaya (1988-1990) and also the Speaker of Lok Sabha (1996-1998). He was elected to the Lok Sabha for eight terms in his long political career. He is now representing Tura constituency in West Garo Hills in the Meghalaya assembly. He was the member of Congress till 1999.
He, along with Sharad Pawar and Tariq Anwar, quit the party to form NCP then. The trio had questioned Sonia Gandhi on leading the party with her foreign origin. The associates of Sangma are meeting in Delhi later today to give the final touches to the new party.
