Indian cricketers wear jerseys with Mother's names

The Indian cricket team was seen sporting a different style of jerseys in the final match of the series with New Zealand in Visakhapatnam. In a special initiative, all the members of the Indian cricket team are wearing jerseys bearing their respective mother's name instead of their own. The team would wear the names of their mothers as a tribute to an important member of the family which doesn’t get as much attention as the father does. Further the last names are derived from the fathers’ names which puts further focus and attention on the father than the mother. This initiative is part of a new campaign started by STAR INDIA highlighting the role of mothers in our lives. Speaking about it at the toss, MS Dhoni said, “We are quite used to having the surnames from the Dad’s side, and what’s important is to appreciate the stuff that Mothers have done for us. It’s a very emotional connect and it’s good that it is put on a public platform. I would like to request the whole of India keeps this in mind every day and appreciate them everyday.”
