Relief for AP CM as court stays order on Cash-for-vote
Updated : Sep 2, 2016
In a huge relief to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Hyderabad High Court today issued a eight-week stayon the re-investigation of cash-for-vote scam by Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau. The court directed Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to file a counter report on a petition filed by Naidu, seeking quashing of the lower court order. The court adjourned further hearing in the case. Revanth Reddy, a legislator of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Telangana, was last year caught red handed by the ACB offering Rs 50 lakh to nominated legislator Elvis Stephenson to make him vote for him in council elections. The Chief Minister is in the thick of the controversy as a taped telephonic conversation allegedly shows Chandrababu Naidu interacting with nominated member Elvis Stephenson. Justice Raja Elango heard the petition filed by Chandrababu Naidu's counsel and had asked the Telangana ACB as well as the private complainant and YSRC MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy to file a counter affidavit in the case. In his petition, Naidu argued that Ramakrishna Reddy had no locus standi in the case andalso reminded that the ACB had already filed a final charge sheet in the case.
