After Honour killing, widow bids for suicide

Many are aware of the honour killing of V.Shankar in Tamilnadu, which shook the state. V. Shankar who belonged to Dalit community, fell in love with S.Kausalya of a higher caste. They got married despite severe protests from the parents of the girl. This has infuriated the relatives of Kausalya who ventured to kill her husband in broad day light. The honour killing has of course shook the state to the core. Many protests and inquiries has followed the murder.

Kausalya has decided to stay with her in laws after the incident. But she probably couldn’t digest the loss of her beloved husband. Kausalya has attempted for suicide and was admitted into Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. Her condition is said to be serious. The tormented life of Kausalya has cast severe doubts on the tolerance levels in Tamil Nadu against inter caste marriages.
