Late Rajiv Gandhi name appears in Wiki Leaks

 

Former Prime Minister of the country late Rajiv Gandhi’s name once again hits the media headlines today, as his name surfaced in Wiki Leaks list. Even before he occupies the Prime Minister chair, he has worked as a middleman for a Swedish company Saab-Scania, which has tried to sell its Viggen fighter lanes to India in ‘70s.

 

These reports were first published in the leading English daily The Hindu, which quotes that its report was based upon the information it had from the latest revelations made by Wiki Leaks. According to reports, Saab-Scania has used the services of late Rajiv Gandhi for his connection with particular family. The report reveals that another French company Dassault, which was also in the race, has used the services of Air Marshal OP Mehra's son-in-law to mediate with the Indian government. But, the Swedish Company has preferred Rajiv Gandhi as its mediator as it could under stand his influence on the government, states Wiki Leaks cable revelations.

 

However, both the Companies have failed to win the bid and the deal went in favor of British SEPECAT Company, which produces Jaguar fighter aircrafts. However, Rajiv Gandhi has come to power in a later period carrying a clean image. But, his clean image was tarnished years after his dealings with another Swedish Company Bofors and it even lead to his defeat in 1989 elections.
