On Sunday, External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met envoys of Gulf countries for reviewing Iraq Action plan for the evacuation of Indians in Iraq . The Indian mission in Iraq has assessed and made arrangements to fly out 40 Indians who were in the safer zones of Iraq, like Najaf, Basra and Karbala and has set up three mobile camps in Najaf, Basra and Karbala, to help Indian workers who want to return. Sushma Swaraj had elaborated that the information about Indians in the conflict zone has been collected and they are taking all measures to evacuate Indians who are stranded in the war strife Iraq. Though they are not able to reach all of the Indians directly ,their whereabouts are safe, but due to the extensive firing happening on the streets their evacuation cannot happen immediately.
The Indian Government is taking all steps and is seeking the assistance of the Gulf envoys in this regard as to how they can help in evacuation of the 100 stranded Indians and the 45 nurses in a hospital in Tikrit who are reportedly still safe and has assured the kith and kin of those stranded in Iraq that they would be brought back to India safely.
