Mars Mission near completion

The prestegioous Mars Orbit Mission (MOM) launched by ISRO on November 5th, 2013 has almost covered 90 percent of the distance and will reach its destination-Mars exactly on September 24th. So far, this Rs.450 crore Mars Mission is going smooth and ISRO scientists expect same in its last leg of stabilizing the Satellite in the Mars orbit.

The Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) mounted on the MOM has to play crucial role in this critical operation. It was quite successfully worked in raising the Mars orbit to higher level in the last year and it has to play very crucial role in stabilizing the MOM. It is intended to hold the MOM in its specified position against the Mars gravitational force, otherwise MOM will dash into Mars surface and it would be a disastrous end for the entire mission. ISRO scientists are quite confident about their LAM performance. LAM is driven by liquid propellant and proved very successful in our ISRO satellites. It is quite reliable engine. We are sure it will function well in the crucial last leg of the Mars Mission, said Dathan an ISRO scientist.
