Konda Laxman Bapuji Planning Fast Unto Death

Konda Laxman Bapuji Planning Fast Unto Death

97 year old Telangana activist, Konda Laxman Bapuji, who has been on a week day fastb over the past six days at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, is planning to launch an indefinite hunger strike if the Centre fails to give a positive response to the statehood demand.

The veteran freedom fighter, Bapuji, has been upset with the way the Congress leadership has ignored his Satyagraha in the Capital. "Except a few Telangana Congress leaders from the state, not a single leader from the AICC has bothered to enquire about Bapuji," a Telangana leader said. Since one week's permission for fasting ended today, Bapuji ended his satyagraha. Later speaking in the press meet, he told that he is planning to convert his Satyagraha at a later date into a fast-unto-death along with one lakh people either in Hyderabad or Delhi. "He wants to take up the campaign on the lines of Anna Hazare. That looks to be the only way," added the leader.

Back home in Andhra Pradesh, the police on Sunday forcibly shifted the former Andhra Pradesh minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who was on indefinite fast since 1 November at Nalgonda to the hospital. On doctors' advice, he was later shifted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad.
