Samantha Ruth Prabhu has carved a big career for herself with many memorable movies and big roles. The actress has always been planning to produce films and she established Tralala Moving Pictures. She produced Subham as her maiden production and the movie is releasing on 9th May, all over. The trailer of the movie started discussion about male and female dynamic through a very interesting premise of watching a serial drama even after death. Let's discuss about the film, in detail.
Plot:
We see an older woman waking up from almost death bed to watch a serial. On the other hand, we see Srinu (Harshith Malgireddy), a very gullible, naive boy who is running a cable distribution network in his village. He likes Valli (Shriya Kontham), upon first sight during Pelli Choopulu and he convinces his parents to let him marry her. Valli is a very independent girl who works in loans department and his mother feels she is not typical housewife types like she is. But Srinu gets lectures about being an Alpha Male in front of his wife from his friends.
Srinu tries to play same in front of his wife but on the first night, he discovers her being obsessed with the same serial that the older woman saw. In the morning, she doesn't remember watching it and feels any serial doesn't need to be watched so profusely. Srinu tries to resist and then finds out that she is possessed. Even his friends' wives, who are treated badly by them, also seem to be possessed. They meet Maya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) to find out the problem and get to know that dead older women are possessing these young women to watch the serial. Why? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Harshith Reddy is believable as Srinu and Gavireddy Srinivas, Charan Peri also did their best in support. On the other hand, Shriya Kontham, Shalini Kondepudi, Shravani got meatier roles to showcase the possession and play as older woman. Their performances are not consistent and convincing. In fact, the leads don't really give such spell-binding performances to involve us in the story at any moment.
The screenplay needs us to travel with them and be in love with their characters or at least connect with them. But their chemistry and even screen writing is not so convincing. The actors are good but the writing and their characterisations don't really have such strength. In a comedy like Jamba lakidi Pamba, each performance is done by seasoned actors and they take us into the narrative and weird storyline right away. Here, that factor is missing.
While the makers wanted us to relate to these misguided "alpha" male theorists but the point seems to be dragged to death. Each scene outlives and screenplay almost repeats itself. Even the solution seems a little bit convenient than being simple and effective for such a film. The believability factor decreases as we progress and the film while executed keeping realism in mind, it does feel outrageously convoluted by the climax.
Each character needed to connect with us for this narrative to really make a mark. But the characters are handled too dumb and writing keeps going in circles rather than moving the plot forward. As the solution is predictable, we tend to feel why did the makers took so long to arrive at this simple thing. Samantha's cameo is also not that effective. Overall, Praveen Kandregula impressed us with Cinema Bandi but failed to really bring the same inventiveness to this dated concept.
Bottomline:
Dragged too much for a simple plot.
Rating: 2/5
