Pawan Kalyan's highly anticipated original film and his first foray into period warrior action genre, Hari Hara Veera Mallu released today. The movie has been divided into two parts and HHVM Part-1: Sword vs Spirit is here. Krish Jagarlamudi started this epic and Jyothi Krishna ended it after several delays and postponements. Let's discuss about this most awaited film in detail.

Plot:

Hari Hara Veera Mallu (Pawan Kalyan) is a fearless thief and he steals valuable diamonds from local merchant (Murli Sharma), who is selling it to a foreign trader at Bandar port. Veera Mallu gets an offer to steal valuable consignment of diamonds from Dora (Sachin Khedekar), who works for Quli Qutub Shah. He wants Mallu to steal those diamonds and give it back to him rather than to Shah. At his place, Mallu meets Devadasi Panchami (Nidhhi Agerwal).

She requests him to take her away from the Dora's grasp. He promises to help her and also steal the consignment. He fights against Shah's army in front of Charminar, but Panchami double crosses him and runs away with diamonds. Shah soldiers capture Mallu and take him to the Nawab. Even Shah offers him a difficult job to steal Kohinoor from Aurangazeb (Bobby Deol)'s peacock throne. What happens next? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Pawan Kalyan looked highly energetic and cool after a long time in this role. His performance speaks volumes of his swag and stylish screen presence. He is able to pull off some of the difficult and unrealistic stunts in the film, without any issue. Also, his typical dialogue delivery suited the character pretty well as he speaks less and acts more. Overall, watching Pawan Kalyan in a period drama and that too after a gap of 3 years on big screen is a highlight of the film.

Nidhhi Agerwal looked pretty and Bobby Deol is believable and menacing as Aurangazeb. But their characters have not been drawn out as much as Pawan Kalyan's. Maybe second part will add more nuances to them. Nasser, Subbaraju, Sunil, Satyaraj, Raghu Babu, Tanikella Bharani have not been given substantial parts yet their presence adds to the screen.

The beginning of the film, especially, the first heist sequence and Mallu's fight with wrestlers have been shot well. On contrary, second hour doesn't have similar number of thrilling moments. Still, the pace and emotion pre-climax picks up well. Climax doesn't provide any resolution to the story and it feels like the story is being stretched out to second part with even bigger ambition.

VFX work looks clumsy and dated with virtual production visuals not coming out as anticipated. Still, Pawan Kalyan and the novel plotline keep audiences engaged throughout. With some care in the second hour, the movie could have been a masterpiece but it works as a good star film. It gives ample mass moments for a star of magnitude Pawan Kalyan and presents him in a new set-up like never before.

MM Keeravani's music, especially, in the first hour shines bright. The production values looked stunning and rich in the first hour but difficulties have been evident in the second hour. Overall, movie had a very novel plotline and screenplay started off well and weared off a bit in second hour ending with a thrilling and high octane climax.

Bottomline:

Pawan Kalyan excels as Hari Hara Veera Mallu and carries it on his able shoulders.

Rating: 2.75/5
