Fruit Kababs

Making veggies and fruits attractive for kids is not as easy as it is for adults. Kids at different ages are either picky or moody, they either dont like the color or the taste, or the name or the shape or the texture of a veggie or a fruit...ask them and they come up with oh so many innovative reasons to reject a food.

We have to learn to dress up the food and make it look attractive and then taste yum inside. Cutting fruits in attractive shapes, or drizzling honey, or chocolate on them, or making kababs with skewers and dipping them in dark chocolate or coat them with sweet yoghurt might be good. Instead of serving icecreams for a party, these fruit kababs can come handy in a healthy way for parties and celebrations.

We need:

Fruits of your choice that are not soggy
Fruit shapers or cutting moulds
Wood skewers
Dark chocolate ( semi-sweetened and melted )

To make:

Consider only hard fruits like banana, cantoloupe, grapes, not too ripe strawberries, watermelon etc.,that donot become too juicy too easily. Scoop small pieces of these fruits in desired shapes and make kababs using skewers. Drizzle dark chocolate generously on these kababs and serve. You can even do the same with veggies like carrots, beetroots, celery, cucumber and use slightly salted yoghurt or dark chocolate too. If you have a party on mind, then insert a homemade cake piece or a brownie bite too. Experimenting with foods is good if the dish turns out edible and healthy...just because we showed this idea in the kids column doesnot mean you cannot offer these fruit kababs to the grown ups. Healthy Treats and tricks are for everyone !!
