Rajkummar Rao has become one of the highly talked about actors in Indian Cinema with his extra ordinary acting skills. After Stree 2, he would have liked to continue his big box office success streak with producer Dinesh Vijan. And the combination is back with Bhool Chuk Maaf, while recent popular actress Wamiqa Gabbi became the leading lady. Let's discuss about the movie in detail.
Plot:
Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao) wants to secure a government job to marry his girlfriend Titli Mishra (Wamiqa Gabbi). He keeps praying to God and listing out his sacrifies to get what he wants. He secures a job and the families agree for marriage. Suddenly, he finds his Haldi Day repeating. He has to explain this to everyone and get the things rolling to finish the marriage ending the time loop. Can he? Watch the movie in theatres to know more.
Analysis:
The movie suffers with pretending to be a small town village honest love story but it fails to understand the nuances needed to pull it off in writing. Frustratingly, even though the film has an interesting premise, it fails to give a good twist to repetitive sequences. It gets irritating after a point as we are left with exasperation of looking at same scenes on repeat mode.
While it is understandable due to the restrictive premise, it would have been good to go in an innovative route to deliver the same scene on repeat. The makers tried to establish a conflict with time loop concept but the way it grows is handled without any proper imagination. It feels like an overdrive to watch the movie not getting funnier with each repeat rather delivering simple punch lines.
Comedy needs a lot more inventiveness but the movie fails to address it. The item number with Dhanushree Varma is also mediocre and the movie needed Rajkummar Rao to be used in his full strength. But it disappoints even on that front. Wamiqa Gabbi tried to pull off an over-the-top character convincingly but the repetitive nature of the screenplay even limited her.
On the whole, the film needed more concentration on writing but it fails to live up to even the talent that it did cast in important roles. Maddock Films did have a great box office run but Bhool Chuk Maaf is not going to add to that list as the movie just fails to engage after a point. It turns to be a forgettable effort afterall.
Bottomline:
Interesting Premise. Boring Time Loop.
Rating: 2/5
