Anurag Kashyap Slams T-Series Over Undervalued Music Rights
on Jul 16, 2025
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has once again stirred the Bollywood pot—this time taking a direct swipe at music label giant T-Series and its head Bhushan Kumar. In a sarcastic and pointed remark, Kashyap revealed that the label offered a laughably low price for the music rights of his upcoming epic film. He mocked Bhushan Kumar's commercial taste by saying, “Since my film doesn’t have a remix of an old song or a party anthem, the music apparently has no value. That’s the T-Series standard now, right?”
The filmmaker, known for his blunt takes and indie sensibilities, didn’t mince words. Without naming Bhushan directly in every sentence, Kashyap made it clear that the offer was not just low—it was disrespectful to the kind of rooted, emotional, and original music created for his film. He stated that art like this gets no attention because it isn’t designed for Instagram reels or dance floors.
Fans and fellow filmmakers have backed Kashyap online, calling out Bollywood’s corporate music culture where labels push massy remakes while ignoring soulful original scores. This clash is the latest example of how creative voices often get drowned by the commercial machinery of big studios and labels.
As expected, T-Series has chosen silence over response, with no official word from Bhushan Kumar or his team yet. But in true Anurag fashion, he didn’t wait for diplomacy. “Maybe if I had added a remix of ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani,’ they’d have paid more,” he joked, sending fans into a frenzy across social media.
With this public outburst, Kashyap not only questioned the value system of India’s biggest music label but reignited the larger debate around artistic integrity vs market obsession. And as always, he’s not backing down.
