Telugu One remembers Haasya Brahma Jandhyala
Director Jandhyala Subramanya Sastry or Jandhyala as he was known as, has etched his place in the hearts of every Telugu film lovers and his comedy has received a brand name as Jandhyala comedy till date. Its been 13 years since he passed away but there has always been a moment where we remember a comic scene from one of his movies. No big Budget movies, no glitz , no glamour just plain simple movies where everybody could relate to was his specialty. A playwright, screen play writer and story writer, dialogue writer, lyricist for over 200 films , Jandhyala developed a command in film making and got the confidence to get into direction with Mudda Mandaram in 1981. A smash hit in those days he became a trendsetter for comedy and has the credit for introducing many comedians like Kota Srinivasa Rao, Brahmandam , the popular Suthhi Janta Velu and Veerabhadra Rao , Dharmavarapu Subramanyam and many other small time comedians who were in Television were made popular on screen by him.
Actress Srilakshmi once said that a separate genre was created by Jandhyala for her and her dialogues in many movies from the movie Chanttabbai and other movies are still remembered .This trend which is missing in film nowadays where the comedians are there, but not remembered by the progeny.
Even today Brahmanandam fondly remembers him as the “ Gurugaru” who gave him the opportunity to act in films after his successful stint in Telugu Television. He managed to even direct Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna. His film with ANR Amarajeevi was a tragedy and tragically a flop also but he tried his hand in every genre.Songs in his movies were also great hits especially from Nalugu Sthambalata , Muddamandaram ,Srivaariki Premalekha- the ever green Toli Saari Mimmalni Chusindi Modalu by S Janaki with Suthi Velu getting shy at the thought that the letter was written to him - is an all time classic.
Films like Nalugu Sthambalata, Rendu Rella Aaru,Aha Naa Pellanta, Vivaha Bhojanambu, Choopulu Kalasina Subhavela, Chantabbai, Amara Jeevi, Seeta Rama Kalyanam and Padamati Sandhya Ragam, Rendu Jalla Seetha and not to forget the all time hit Srivariki Premalekha which starred Purnima and Naresh will always be cherished in our hearts for its innocence, simplicity , comedy and not deviating from reality. There is also a Facebook page dedicated to him which shows how much his movies and comedy are still loved by the Telugu people.
