Girish Karnad might be known to the Telugu audience as just a villain. Very few are aware that he is a great writer. His Playwrights are so popular that Girish was even conferred with the highest literary award Gnan Peeth. The works of Girish are considered volatile and revolutionary... which is the reason why some right wing extremists has decided to put an end to his pen. In fact Girsih was the main target of killers who murdered Gauri Lankesh. Some documents possessed from the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) have listed more than 30 members. Gauri’s name is at number 2 while Girish was given the first position. Following the latest revelations, Girish was given reasonable security by the state government.
