Pradeep Ranganathan has delivered blockbusters like Love Today and Return of Dragon. He is growing in popularity and Mythri Movie Makers have decided to produce a young, happening film Dude. Keerthiswaran is debuting as director with this one and Sai Abhyankkar debuted as music composer. With Premalu fame Mamitha Baiju in leading role, the movie released today. Let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:
Gagan (Pradeep Ranganathan) creates ruckus at his ex-girlfriend's wedding and he is saved by his uncle's daughter Kundana (Mamitha Baiju). His uncle being a State Minister (Sarathkumar), it becomes easy for him to walk away unscathed. Gagan and Kundana work together as event organizers, owned by Gagan. Kundana proposes to him and he accepts for the sake of her happiness.

But he rejects her proposal and heartbroken, she goes to Bangalore for her higher studies. After six months, Gagan realises his love for Kundana and asks his uncle to arrange for their marriage. On the marriage day, Kundana tells Gagan that she is in love with another person. As his uncle warns to kill Kundana, if the marriage doesn't happen, they get married. What happens next? Watch Dude to know more.

Analysis:
Pradeep Ranganathan is good with his antics and he entertains in his typical style but writing wise it falters in using him. As the story keeps swinging like a pendulum, his performance also feels as random as narrative. Each and every scene gets progressively worse and repetitive.

The set up in the first hour works to an extent as the narrative focuses on modern age relationships and confusion. But the second half drags on with emotional scenes appearing as unintentional comedy. Each scene progressively disconnects audiences with the movie as anything can happen seems to happen.

Love and relationships have been handled in such a comic way that the movie loses all focus in the second hour. The clarity that is established in both leading characters becomes comic in the later half. Mamitha Baiju's performance is good but her character loses steam in the second hour completely.

Sai Abhyankkar's music and production values are good but they could not fill up the holes in the narrative. On the whole, the movie tries to be highly entertaining Gen-Z film but in trying to be so new, it ends up being silly.

Bottomline:
Dude falters after a passable first half with underwhelming second half.

Rating: 2/5
