Satellite Rights Of This Film Sold For 75 Cr

on Dec 15, 2016

Bollywood Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan is soon coming up with a biographical sports drama film Dangal directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film’s satellite rights were said to be sold for highest ever price in Indian cinema history.

As far as satellite rights are concerned, the costliest deal for a film till date was for Dhoom 3 by Sony - around Rs 65 crore. But here comes Aamir Khan- the man who can change quietly almost everything in Bollywood- and he beats that figure. Dangal has been sold to Zee for Rs 75 crore.

The current scenario is a far cry from the boom time when networks had bidding wars to bag big films. Experts estimate that rates for acquiring satellite rights of Hindi films have gone down by nearly 40-45% in the past 2 years.

Ormax has projected Dangal to be the most-awaited film of 2016 and trade experts estimate the collection of Day 1 to be around Rs 24 crore.

Dangal, based on wrestler Mahavir Phogat's (Aamir) life and his daughters' (Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra) journey to success, hits theatres on December 23.
