Are big films unable to control leaks and piracy?

on Jul 19, 2025

Coolie starring Superstar Rajinikanth, King Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan has faced leaks while shooting in Vizag port area with Nagarjuna. Also, there have been leaks from Pawan Kalyan's OG sets. Now, Megastar Chiranjeevi's Mega157 is facing leaks with Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara images leaking from sets.

Earlier, there have been leaks from Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan sets and several big films as well. Even Rajamouli has not been exempt for these leaks. Hence, Baahubali team in 2013 have decided to not allow phones on sets. Even they did same for RRR but SSMB29 shoot scenes have been leaked from Orissa schedule.

Lokesh Kanagaraj had to write a note requesting fans to not share the leaked clips while Nag's Simon character traits have created huge buzz and excitement for the film. Mega157 team have also released a statement asking fans to not share such images anymore.

Well, big films and big stars does create huge amount of anticipation all over and excitement. But sharing the film scenes from shoot without clear cut permissions lead to unnecessary spoilers spreading all over. This could dilute the excitement for the film or create huge expectations prior release.

Also, piracy has been huge issue from two decades with the dawn of new technology. The makers are trying to find creative ways to reduce the effects of piracy and they have been trying to disperse their films to OTT platforms at the earliest for good amount. Now, leaks have become a new issue for producers to tackle.

The excitement of fans and audiences to watch stars in action is understandable but recording them and releasing on social media. These sort of leaks are harmful for sustaining the theatrical excitement of audiences while some can work in positive way. In any case, it is harmful to encourage such leaks and catching matinee idols on big screens is advisable.
