AICC state party affairs incharge Gulam Nabi Azad has come to Hyderabad ona two-day visit. The Congress party in the state is curiously waiting for answers to these three questions at present - what stand the high command is going to take in case of CM kiran Kumar Reddy, what action will be taken against MPs and MLAs who are supporting Jagan Mohan Reddy and how Mr. Azad will handle the pro-Telangana activists within and outside the party.  

Jagan Wins Kadapa LS Seat With Record Majority

YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy retained the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat with a record majority of over 500,000 votes. The son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy won with a majority of 5,12,315 votes (Exact number of votes not yet declared by EC). Jagan, as he is popularly known, polled a whopping 687,068 votes while Andhra Pradesh Health Minister D.L. Ravindra Reddy of the Congress got 144,015 votes. M.V. Mysoora Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) finished a poor third with 127,183 votes.

A day after the Supreme Court lifted a gag order on his tapped telephonic conversations, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Thursday admitted that the tapes had his voice but alleged a cut and paste job. "I don't say it was not my voice. But if you are tapping someone's phone for over an year, the conversations can be put in other context. The tapes are spliced, it is a cut and paste job," Amar Singh told reporters.

Elaborate Security Arrangements For Kadapa Bypolls

Despite elaborate security arrangements and deployment of over 11000 security personnel for the scheduled Kadapa bypolls on 8 May, the final day of campaigning ended in violence yesterday. Two Congress activists were allegedly done to death by YSR Congress workers in the early morning. Congress activists Subbarayudu, 55, and Lakshminarayana, 35, were attacked by unidentified persons in Chinnamarajupalli village near Proddatur with hunting sickles in the wee hours of Friday. Both of them died on the spot. By the afternoon, the police booked cases of murder against YSR Congress leader Nadipenna and his two sons Goverdhan and Srinivasulu. Cases were also booked against a few others, but nobody has been arrested as yet.

PRP MLA Katasani Deserts Jagan Party

PRP MLA from Banaganapalle, Katasani Rami Reddy deserted Jagan's party and has come back to PRP again. Andhra Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar issued a show-cause notice on April 29 to K Rami Reddy and that has made Katasani to announce that he would continue in his parent party by deserting the Y S R Congress Party President Jagan Mohan Reddy's camp.  

Osama Bin Laden Killing: Zawahiri Paved Way

A Saudi news paper Al-Watan reported that US troops were led to Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden by his own deputy, Ayman Al Zawahiri, because of a simmering internal power struggle. Quoting an unnamed 'regional source', the newspaper said the top two al Qaeda men had differences and that a courier who led US forces to bin Laden was working for Zawahiri. The courier was a Pakistan national and not a Kuwaiti as the US suspected, Al-Watan said. The man knew he was being followed by the US military but disguised the fact.

This awkward question has arisen amid the justified celebrations over the killing of Osama bin Laden. Several Muslim authorities said that the sea burial in fact violated Muslim tradition and warned that it could help trigger calls for revenge from militant Muslims. The sea burial "runs contrary to the principles of Islamic laws, religious values and humanitarian customs," Sheik Ahmed al Tayeb, the grand Imam of Cairo's Al Azhar mosque, said.
