TeluguOne Tribute to the real Legend Sri NTR

on May 28, 2014

Great people never die… especially great actors like Sri Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao ,who has permanently carved a place in the hearts of Telugu people across the Globe. To say anything about his acting skills  would be clichéd and  to talk about his personality and dedication towards films and his contribution to the development of the State Of Andhra Pradesh  in a single page on the web or a column space in the print media would not be enough.

With a Degree in Arts from the Andhra Christian College, Guntur he was selected as a Sub Registrar in the Government. But his love for theater and acting got him into the film industry where he went on to act in more than 300 films. A man who donned many hats, he was  an actor, producer, director ,a screenplay writer for some of his own films. As a producer he took great care when it came to his costumes and jewelry when he was acting in mythological movies. The production value of the films that he produced were so rich not only in content, dialogue or costume , that some of his movies were featured in International Film festivals. His portrayal of Lord Krishna , Rama, Ravana, Karna  and other mythological characters have been the best till date and nobody including Kantha Rao or Sobhan Babu could repeat the same the way he portrayed it. Maya Bazaar which was one of the biggest hits of the time has been digitized into colour and the movie CD has its place in every Telugu household as a must watch film. Gundamma Katha where he acted along with Akkinneni Nageshwara Rao and SV Ranga Rao was a block buster in those days and he went on to act with ANR in many more films  after that. All the rumours about their hostility was put to rest when ANR himself clarified that they were the best of friends in an interview before he passed away.

He not only played folk and mythological roles, but was also appreciated for his roles in social and historical films. As the 70s and 80s came he went on to redefine himself in regular commercial films like Adavi Ramudu, Bobbili Puli, Yamagola. He has acted with some of the best directors in the Telugu film industry and there was a point of time that producers who were so loyal to him would make films only with him and no one else.

His entry into politics was equally dramatic where he put the State of Andhra Pradesh on the Indian Political Map and the concept of the Telugu Pride which he propagated is still in vogue today. As a three-time Chief Minister of the state of Andhra Pradesh he ushered in many reforms including the 2Rs Kg rice scheme, amending the property  law for giving women equal rights in inheritance, prohibition etc.

Pity that the Govt of India could not confer the Dada Saheb Phalke Award on this acting legend. On the eve of the Partition of the State of Andhra Pradesh which is due on June 2nd, TeluguOne remembers the Viswa Vikhyatha Nata Sarvabhouma- Sri Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao on his 91st Birth year, the real Legend who fought for the Pride of the Telugu people and its unity.
