Patas Movie Review

on Jan 23, 2015

After a series of flops, Nandamuri Kalyanram is coming to test his luck at the box-office with 'Patas'. Dialogue writer Anil Ravipudi is making his debut as a director and Shruti Sodhi is the leading lady. Sai Karthik has composed the music and Kalyanram himself has produced 'Patas' under NTR Arts banner. Let us get into the review to know more about the film.

Story:

‘Patas’ is all about a daring but corrupt officer Kalyan Sinha (Kalyanram). His is loved by his subordinates as Kalyan encourages corruption. This attitude of Kalyan becomes a headache to DGP (Sai Kumar), and it reaches the next level when our hero teams up with another brutal political GK (Ashutosh Rana). But why did Kalyan Sinha become a corrupt officer? What are the reasons behind this corrupt attitude? Will he transform into a good cop? Well, you need to watch the film on the big screen to know more about ‘Patas’.

Analysis:

As they say, good things fall at a place for a hit film, this is the exact case of ‘Patas’. Kalyanram introduced Surender Reddy as a director with Athanokkade and the latter went on to become one of the top directors in Tollywood. Kalyanram’s latest discovery, Anil Ravipudi definitely belongs to the same cadre. It is very important for the director to blend action, comedy and sentiment in a film and Anil Ravipudi has done it with perfection in ‘Patas’.

In spite of having an old script, Anil Ravipudi has once again proved that a director can change the entire look of the film with their execution. Even a predictable climax was not able to damage the thought on the film as the audience will feel that the purpose has been served with 2 hours of non-stop entertainment.

Teluguone Perspective:

‘Patas’ is definitely the best performance of Kalyanram in his entire career. It’s been close to a decade since Kalyanram delivered a hit film at the box-office and this fact is definitely a baggage for any director. Kalyanram has excelled as Kalyan Sinha and his full-on energetic mode is one of the major plus points for the film. Routine plot doesn’t bore the audience as the director understood the mass pulse and executed the film according to that. Balakrishna’s references and ‘Arey o Samba’ remix will be a feast for Nandamuri fans.

Above all, Patas has got all the elements to entertain Telugu audience. Kalyanram’s sincere effort has paid-off and his flop streak will end with this film.

Performances:

It’s Kalyanram’s show all the way. His comedy timing, body language and dance moves are superb. Shruti Sodhi has nothing much to do and can be considered as a major let down in the movie. Srinivasa Reddy delivered a hilarious performance. Sai Kumar, MS Narayana and Ashutosh Rana are good.

Technicalities:

Patas is definitely a big break to music director Sai Karthik. All his mass number were well shot and the last song ‘Arey O Samba’ stands out as the best song. Sai Karthik’s BGM gave an extra energy for the film. Sarvesh Murari’s cinematography is rich. 5 out of 5 for Anil Ravipudi as a dialogue writer and director. He is going to be in the top league directors very soon.
