Superstar Rajinikanth is known for his aura and charisma on the screen. Everyone can identify themselves and admire him on the big screens because of his energy and charm. Now, he is back as Jailer, with his blockbuster sequel, Jailer 2. Let's discuss if the magic of 2023 film is repeated by Nelson or not.
Plot:
Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) is living as a supermarket supervisor back in his hometown. He decides to check on how the big network behind Varman is following him. He goes to a local fruit seller and rowdy, Moorthi (Namo Narayana) as a driver and encourages him to do the idol theft and selling business to find Dileep (Suraj Venjaramoodu).
Through Dileep, he traces out that Kalpak family, mainly, Bodhi Kalpak (SJ Suryah), Kaantha Kalpak (Vidya Balan) and their father Chakri Kalpak (Mithun Chakraborthy) from Goa, run the business. So, how he uses Narasimha (Shiva Rajkumar), Mathew (Mohanlal) and Roddy (Hrithik Roshan) to overcome the threat, forms the story. Will his family be able to accept the fact that he killed his own son? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Rajinikanth oozes aura in every frame and even at the age of 75, he is able to showcase his own charm on big screen. His walk, his ability to give small reactions that bring out big emotion, his charisma and his style have been framed well by Nelson. Rajni does well in emotional scenes too but do not accept at the level as in the first part. He carries the character who is carrying weight of his decisions from the first, really well.
Vidya Balan is good in her portions and leaves audiences wanting for more. Ramyakrishnan, Mirnaa Menon give right emotional push from their side. SJ Suryah got more meat after Namo Narayana and he is good but he became routine. Still, he is able to command the screen in his scenes even with Rajinikanth in the same frame. Mithun Chakraborthy is pale in comparison. Suraj Venjramoodu doesn't get Varma type typical characterisation, still, he pulled off his role excellently.
Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff cameos are well placed but lack similar impact as the first one. Still, they are used well in screenplay and they do not feel like shoe horned in some manner. Nelson is at his best when he is using Namo Narayana character as a fool and dark humor works well in first hour.
The shock and awe of Jailer interval and elevation scenes are tough to match but Nelson decided to work within the same format yet bring new additions to the world without disturbing the set pieces. As a continuation to Tiger Muthuvel Pandian story, this works well and Nelson used it his smarts to make it worth a watch.
Anirudh Ravichander's BGM is apt for the film. He doesn't go out of the script and gave apt scores to every character. Production values from Sun Pictures are brilliant and technically movie is very good. The first half humor and second half cameos, make it a proper packaged commercial entertainer and celebration for fans.
Positives:
Rajinkanth's aura
Big Star cameos
Anirudh Ravichander BGM
Nelson mark humor
Tight commerical package
A perfect Rajini trademark film
Negatives:
Slight drag at few places
Predictability as movie follows Jailer mould
Bottomline: A complete celebration of Rajinikanth in Nelson style!
Rating: 3/5
