There was a time when blockbuster celebrations in Kollywood meant one thing — the iconic 100 days event. Grand functions, packed auditoriums and milestone posters were considered the ultimate proof of success. Today, success celebrations seem to be evolving.
Instead of waiting for milestone events, stars and producers are increasingly celebrating wins by rewarding the people behind the scenes. The latest example came from Suriya after Karuppu emerged as a blockbuster. The actor gifted cars to editor R. Kalaivanan, composer Sai Abhyankkar and cinematographer GK Vishnu. Director RJ Balaji appreciated the gesture and especially highlighted the recognition given to the editor.
This trend has been visible for a while now. After Vikram, Kamal Haasan gifted a Lexus to director Lokesh Kanagaraj, motorcycles to assistant directors and a Rolex watch to Suriya following his impactful cameo. Similarly, Jailer producer Kalanithi Maran gifted luxury cars to director Nelson Dilipkumar and composer Anirudh Ravichander while also rewarding Rajinikanth.
Other producers including Vinod Kumar (Mark Antony), Udhayanidhi Stalin (Maamannan) and SS Lalit Kumar have also rewarded directors in recent years. 100 days events may still carry nostalgia. But today, success celebrations are increasingly becoming about recognising the people who helped create the success.
