Shiva Shakti Datta became a boon for SS Rajamouli; Know how

on Jul 8, 2025

Shiva Shakti Datta, father of MM Keeravaani passed away today. The multi-faceted writer, artist, lyricist, story-writer, musician and director worked hard to find his feet in Telugu Film Industry. Before Vijayendra Prasad, his younger brother and celebrated writer, became independent, they both wrote films as Datta Brothers.

He never gave up his love for arts and music, which helped MM Keeravaani to grow as an Oscar Winning composer, today. But his contribution in SS Rajamouli films has always been huge. Many, who follow SSR's films closely know that his family members come together to work with him and help him in designing his huge films.

Shiva Shakti Datta wrote Chatrapati song lyrics - "Agni Sakalani". When SSR wanted to refer his main character to legendary Maratha King Chatrapathi Shivaji, it is him, who wrote lyrics accordingly. Always, he used to be the person to help him in finding best references from history to bring them on screen.

Vijayendra Prasad in an interview, stated that his elder brother, used to help him in finding apt references to create memorable characters. In fact, Baahubali characters have been established around the references that Shiva Shakti Dutta improvised on taking basic ideas from SSR.

A person who was well-versed in Sanskrit, Telugu, Hindi and many languages, he used to bring historical references to SSR films, enriching them with great character depth. His passing away would be a great loss to Keeravaani, SSR and their family. Let's wish they find solace and strength to overcome this grave sorrow.
