Karthi is returning as the dual-role spy in Sardar 2, directed by PS Mithran, and the actor believes the sequel takes the franchise considerably further than the original. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on September 10.

Speaking about the sequel, Karthi said, “The concept of Sardar 2 will create ten times more impact than the first film.” Unlike the first Sardar, which dealt with water commercialisation, the sequel reportedly shifts its focus to a major crisis unfolding within India. Karthi feels this gives the film a different dimension from conventional spy thrillers that largely rely on international missions.

The scale has also increased considerably, with the team reportedly constructing a life-sized Vande Bharat train set for one of the action sequences. Karthi described the production as a large-scale attempt to deliver an Indian spy thriller with ambitious action blocks, particularly in the flashback and climax.

The actor also spoke about the physical demands of playing the older version of his character. “I genuinely enjoy action, but fighting like an elderly man brought its own unique challenges,” he said, explaining that the character relies more on experience and technique than physical strength.

Another major addition is SJ Suryah as the antagonist. Karthi called his character “remarkably fresh and unpredictable” and revealed that Suryah has dubbed his own portions. Produced by Prince Pictures, Sardar 2 will be released in Telugu by Annapoorna Studios.
