Ram Charan and director Buchi Babu Sana recently shared their experiences from the sets of their upcoming sports drama, Peddi, during a special interaction titled “Driving Through Peddi Memories.”
With the film's trailer setting a new Telugu cinema record by crossing 101 million views in 24 hours, the duo opened up about the immense effort that went into the project. Buchi Babu revealed that Sukumar encouraged him to develop the plotline and that he never imagined anyone but Charan for the lead. The director stated that the character’s journey is so inspiring it should be in textbooks.
To authentically play a cross-over athlete, Charan underwent massive physical transformations, shifting from a village cricketer to a wrestler, and finally to a runner. The wrestling sequences were so intense that Charan suffered a ligament tear that weakened his nerves. However, the actor affectionately pointed out that this happened due to Buchi Babu’s immense enthusiasm on set, making it clear he embraced the physical toll without any regrets for the good of the film.
Charan admitted that he lost his motivation to work during the Covid period, even while working on a massive project like RRR. However, he recalled SS Rajamouli’s advice to find motivation in daily activities, such as regularly cleaning his own room. He stated that the sheer honesty in Buchi Babu’s script provided that exact inner strength.
Buchi Babu credited AR Rahman’s background score for elevating the film. Produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru, Peddi features Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu. The film releases worldwide on June 4.
