Dulquer Salmaan has a good market in Telugu States and he took time off from Malayalam films for 3 years post King of Kotha. Now, he is back with I'M Game and the movie released after many delays today. RDX fame Nahas Hidayath directed the film. Let's discuss about it in detail.

Plot:

Dan John (Dulquer Salmaan) is a gambling addict and keeps being called as a Loser. His rich father also treats him the same way. His mother (Jayasudha) gives him her life-long savings to bail himself out from a betting debt. But he gambles it on a CPL Final match and ends up with 2 crores debt. He chooses to threaten the gangster running the racket and ends up losing his right hand in an accident.

His hand is transplanted using a donor Vicky (Anthony Varghese)'s hand. But it starts behaving like an individual entity and forces Dan to change his lifestyle. He is unable to bring himself out of its influence. But under its influence he chases a mob boss David (Mysskin). What is the relation between Vicky and David? What would Dan do after knowing the entire truth? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Dulquer Salmaan is good in action sequences and he brought a unique character to the proceedings. His likeable screen presence makes them all believable. His charm is good in many scenes but action sequences seem to have been stretched too much at places.

Kayadu Lohar, Samyuktha Viswanathan, Kathir, Mysskin, Anthony Varghese are good in their roles. But none of them leave an impact. Samyuktha's close ups tend to be her weakness. Kathir role could have designed even better.

Writing wise, Nahas Hidayath takes a novel core plot but goes into cliched scenes and action sequences making it all an excuse to do action. While the cricket betting angle, immediate fight are well designed, after that the screenplay never really rises above the mediocrity.

It feels like it is dragging the obvious a bit too much towards the climax. While Dulquer Salmaan tries to save it with his magnetic presence, the action heavy second half becomes more template commercial cinema after its good start.

Technically, Jakes Bejoy's music, Cinematography and VFX are good enough but editing at places feels random. Overall, movie has a good premise undermined by too template driven screenplay towards the end.

Positives:

Dulquer Salmaan's performance

Kayadu Lohar scenes

Anthony Varghese backstory

Music

Few action sequences

Negatives:

Template driven narrative

Drag in second hour

Few scenes being too cliched

Editing is random

Impressive premise looses steam.

Bottomline:

DQ is good but too much template driven narrative spoils fun. Watchable for Action lovers.

Rating: 2.5/5
