Debut Directors Who Appeared Most Experienced

on Dec 19, 2016

Several newcomers made their directorial debut this year. But, only few of them made their mark by delivering hits. In fact, very few out of these appeared to be most experienced because of their unique story selection and exceptional making. Here is the list of best debut directors of 2016 and their films which convinced critics as well as audiences and turned out as commercial hits:

Kalyan Krishna: Soggade Chinni Nayana is the first film for Akkineni family to enter 50 cr club. More than this positive aspect, all section of audiences and also critics lauded the film as one of the best for Nagarjuna, which had excited the actor. Kalyan Krishna presented Nagarjuna in never seen before massy avatar. Nag’s panche kattu, mannerisms, diction, body language and romance with heroines lured fans and cine goers to blow whistles. Soon, Nag and Kalyan will be teaming up for the film titled Bangar Raju, character name of Nag in SCN.

Ravikanth: There was a common opinion that, Telugu filmmakers can’t make engaging and unique thrillers. Ravikanth replied them with Kshanam. The film brought big change to the industry. Heroes changed their mindset over thriller films. Even, several stars are coming forward to do films with experimental concepts. Kshanam succeeded in making audience go to the edge of their seats while viewing. There were many thrilling elements throughout the film and Ravikanth maintained the suspense till the end.

Tharun Bhaskar: Can we consider a film made with 40 crores collects 50 cr share a hit? No, because investment and profit ratio is completely divergent. A short film maker Tharun Bhaskar made Pelli Choopulu with a shoes-string budget of Rs 1.7 crores, which includes promotions cost. The romantic comedy film collected a share of around Rs 15 Cr for full run, was a big hit in overseas too. Tharun’s simple writing, witty one liners, lead actors performances are biggest assets of Pelli Choopulu.

Besides these, few other debut directors too experimented with different subjects but failed to make them commercial hits.

Veteran filmmaker Ravi Raja Pinisetty’s elder son Sathya Prabhas Pinisetty made a coming-of-age mystery film Malupu with his younger brother Aadhi playing protagonist. Though the film ended as an average grosser, Sathya won accolades for his writing and making. Run time and songs were biggest drawbacks of the film. If the director should have taken better care on script, result would have been different.

Sathish Kasetty directed Terror starring Srikanth was good in parts, but his lack of knowledge in direction led the film to appear like a half-baked one.

Nenu Sailaja is second film as director for Kishore Tirumala. His first movie Second Hand was a flop. His second attempt as director was a money-spinner at box office. For a change, Kishore prepared a clean romantic entertainer for Ram who was then doing only mass films. Ram and Keerthy Suresh appeared cute together and Kishore’s writing was best part.
