The upcoming August box office is witnessing a massive reshuffle that could change the fate of several big-ticket releases. Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated sequel, Jailer 2, is reportedly pushing its release date to September 4th as the makers need more time to complete the extensive post-production work.

This unexpected delay has suddenly opened up the highly lucrative Independence Day weekend, creating a golden opportunity for other major projects to swoop in. Industry buzz strongly suggests that Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons is the frontrunner to take over this prime slot.

Dropping in mid-August would give this 100-crore project a crucial 10-day gap before the next big film, Nani's The Paradise, arrives on August 21st. However, it will not be a completely solo run, as Mandadi is already locking its sights on an August 12th or 13th release.  

Interestingly, there is a massive backup plan involving a brotherly swap at the box office. Sources claim that if Suriya decides to hold Vishwanath and Sons for a Dasara release instead, Karthi might bring his grand spy sequel Sardar 2 into the August window to capitalize on the holiday.

If the August move does not happen, Karthi’s team is preparing Sardar 2 as a major contender for Diwali. With Suriya in desperate need of a clear theatrical run to secure a blockbuster, this high-stakes game of release dates is pure survival strategy.
