Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced a film based on Rameshwar Nath Kao, the founder and first chief of India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The project is being developed by Dharma Productions in association with Leo Media Collective and is scheduled to release in theatres on August 11, 2028.

The announcement brings the story of one of India's most influential intelligence figures to the big screen, with the film set to explore Kao's life and his role in establishing RAW.

Kao served as RAW chief from 1969 to 1977 and was also associated with the security establishments of Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi. His career included RAW's involvement in the Bangladesh Liberation War.

The film is based on Nitin A. Gokhale's book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster, which documents the intelligence officer's life and career. Karan Johar had first announced the adaptation in January 2020, with Dharma Productions and Still and Still Media Collective attached to the project.
