This Independence Day, Hindi Zee 5 is bringing an untold story of courage and sacrifice to audiences with Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, which will premiere exclusively on August 14, 2026. Starring Kangana Ranaut, Girija Oak and Smita Tambe, the thriller-drama revisits the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks from the perspective of the ordinary people who displayed extraordinary courage during the tragedy.
Written and directed by Manoj Tapadia and produced by PEN Studios, Manikarnika Films and Paramhans Creations in association with Eunoia Films LLP and Floating Rocks Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the film is set against the backdrop of Mumbai's Cama and Albless Hospital. Instead of focusing on the attackers or the security forces, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata puts the spotlight on doctors, nurses, ward boys, cleaners, security personnel and other hospital staff who risked their lives to protect their patients.
When the attackers entered the hospital premises, these healthcare workers found themselves on the frontline despite having no weapons or formal training to deal with such a situation. Their decision to continue protecting and caring for patients despite the danger forms the emotional core of the film.
Kangana Ranaut, who is also associated with the film as a producer, said the story was important because it brings attention to heroes whose courage was never driven by recognition. “Some stories choose you because they deserve to be told. Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is one such film,” she said, adding that the healthcare workers stood fearlessly between terror and humanity during the attacks. She further noted that the Independence Day release reinforces the film's message that the spirit of India is also defined by ordinary citizens who rise to extraordinary challenges.
Writer-director Manoj Tapadia said the intention was to present “a perspective that has never been explored” while telling the story of 26/11. He pointed out that while the bravery of security forces is remembered by the nation, equally extraordinary acts of courage were unfolding inside Cama Hospital that night. “Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is our tribute to their resilience, humanity and quiet heroism,” he said.
