Chinmayi sparks further controversies about harassment

May 19, 2026

Acclaimed singer and vocal activist Chinmayi Sripaada recently shared her disgust regarding resurfaced stories of vintage Bollywood misconduct. Calling out the dark side of classic cinema, she tweeted, "Looks like a lot of these male senior actors ended up sexually harassing minors in the name of making films. I was shocked reading the Vinod Khanna and Feroz Khan story yesterday. Disgusting." Given her solid reputation as a fearless whistleblower who championed the #MeToo movement down South, her words immediately sparked a widespread online debate.

The context stems from old film magazine gossip currently trending on social media platforms like Reddit. Specifically, these discussions detail an alleged incident on the sets of the 1988 film Dayavan. Directed by Feroz Khan, the rumor claims that Vinod Khanna lost control and continued forcefully kissing a young Madhuri Dixit long after the director yelled "cut," leaving her traumatized.

Similar viral stories involving other yesteryear actors and teenage debutantes, such as a 15-year-old Rekha being forcefully kissed by Biswajeet on set, have only fueled the fire. However, while workplace harassment in the film industry is a very real and historical issue, the rapid spread of these specific decades-old stories often borders on internet sensationalism.

While filmmakers of that era were known for their bold choices, these particular narratives are largely driven by unconfirmed retro gossip columns and online echo chambers rather than documented evidence. As we continue to scrutinize the past, it is crucial to draw a line between calling out actual exploitation and blindly amplifying unverified, decades-old rumors simply for shock value.
