Sankrathi Sambaralu in Detroit

Under the new leadership of Mr.Venkat Aekka Garu, President (DTA 2012) and with his Executive committee, Detroit Telugu Association (DTA) celebrated 2012 Sankrati Vedukalu, with all its festive colors on Sat Jan-21-2012 5:30 PM EST @ Novi High School and marked it as a historical event in DTA’s Chapters.

The tradition, culture and moral values are still being carried out side India, in cities like Detroit,USA with the help of great organizations like Detroit Telugu Association (DTA) since 1976.


This event was attended by more than 1000 members of DTA (including their children).

The highlights of this year’s event are:

 

  • The Front desk activities like registrations, coupons are setup and managed so well that no one felt inconvenience to enter the premises.

  • Since it is almost 5 to 6 hour event and it is dinner time it is important that food is given utmost priority and the food committee stood up for that. Excellent Tasty, Indian Andhra festive style food was served. The taste is still unforgettable.

  • DTA sponsored free family portraits to its DTA member families.

  • The cultural secretary and his committee gave the evening utmost festival look with all the decorations and perfect program schedule.

  • "Telugu Tejam" awards were given to Prominent Telugus from Michigan - Shri Gopi Surnilla Technical Specialist R&D, Ford Motor Company for holding record number of patents and Dr Haranath Policherla, Renowned Neurologist & Actor, Film Maker

  • In addition to several folk songs and movie songs by child and youth artists, two twins rocked the show with their classical song.

  • Comedy skit by DTA members rocked the hall with smiles and laughter.

  • The event ended with a mesmerizing "Tribute to NTR" live orchestra concert and theme was movie songs from Nata Saarva Bhouma N.T.Rama Rao gari movies. Singers Mr.Venkat Aekka, Krishna Prasad, Alka Jupudi, Vasudha Kommaragiri and Venkat Gotur along with talented musicians Sreedhar Vidyanathan on Keyboard and Mohan Ponangavil on Tabla rocked the auditorium with the most melodious lineup of duets and solos. The concert was appreciated by one and all for quality presentation and excellent selection of songs

At every stage the event was very well focused on the “Festival Sankranti” and kept its tradition up to its standards.
