Varanasi controversies end amicably

Jul 23, 2026 3:38PM

The title controversy surrounding SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu's much-awaited pan-world adventure Varanasi has finally come to an end. After weeks of discussions and uncertainty, the issue has reportedly been resolved amicably, clearing the path for the film to move forward without any legal complications.

The dispute began after Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations claimed ownership of the title "Vaaranasi," stating that it had been registered with the Telugu Film Producers' Council well before Rajamouli's team announced the project. The production house even sought legal intervention, creating a brief cloud over one of Indian cinema's biggest upcoming films.

However, according to the latest reports, both parties have now reached a mutual understanding and settled the matter outside the courtroom. With the title officially free of any objections, the makers can now continue production without distractions.

The timing couldn't have been better, as Varanasi is currently progressing at a brisk pace. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film stars Mahesh Babu in a never-seen-before action-adventure role, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas playing the female lead and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist. Backed by producer K.L. Narayana and featuring music by M.M. Keeravani, the film is being mounted on a massive international scale.
