Prashanth Neel says NTR inspired him to add more emotion in Dragon

May 20, 2026

Jr NTR’s Dragon has quietly evolved into one of the most closely followed Indian films currently in production. Directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts, the film stars Jr NTR alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Anil Kapoor and Biju Menon. Ravi Basrur is composing the music while longtime Neel collaborator Bhuvan Gowda handles cinematography.

During a recent interaction with Baradwaj Rangan, Prashanth Neel revealed that Jr NTR played a major role in pushing the film emotionally beyond just spectacle and elevations. The filmmaker explained that Dragon is not designed as a conventional action film where set pieces exist only for visual highs.

According to Neel, audiences connect with action only when they emotionally understand the people involved. He hinted that the conflicts in Dragon emerge from personal relationships, emotional wounds and inner struggles rather than functioning as standalone mass moments.

Neel also praised Jr NTR’s ability to shift naturally between vulnerability and aggression within the same scene, describing that emotional fluidity as one of the actor’s greatest strengths. He suggested that several emotional layers in the film became stronger during conversations with the actor.

Despite his reputation for creating massive cinematic highs in KGF and Salaar, Neel repeatedly emphasized that spectacle alone has no value unless audiences remain emotionally invested in the characters. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 11, 2027.

Interestingly, NTR himself echoed a similar admiration after the glimpse release. Thanking fans for making his birthday special with the overwhelming response, the actor also credited Prashanth Neel for envisioning Dragon on such a massive scale. The mutual respect between the actor and director is slowly becoming one of the talking points surrounding the film.
