Naga Chaitanya says Thandel will be a lasting experience

Yuva Samrat Akkineni Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi’s highly anticipated movie ‘Thandel’ is releasing worldwide on 7th February. The most awaited movie is directed by Chandoo Mondeti and presented by Mega Producer Allu Aravind, with passionate Producer Bunny Vasu producing it under highly reputed Geetha Arts banner. Promotional content released for the film has created enormous buzz. Naga Chaitanya shared exciting details about the film in a press interaction. Here are the excerpts.
There are a lot of expectations among the audience about the movie ‘Thandel’. What kind of excitement do you have?
- We have already seen the movie and I am extremely confident about its success. It is the biggest production and highly anticipated film of my career. The second half got unanimous appreciation from everyone who watched it. The movie gave me an emotional high too. The last thirty minutes were very satisfying. I am 100% sure that the climax will give everyone a great emotional high.
How did the story of ‘Thandel’ come about?
I heard this story during the shoot of Dhootha. I came to know that Vasu garu had put this one on hold at Geetha Arts. I asked him to develop it and tell me if it is in good shape. When I first heard it, it was like a documentary. We had to work on it to bring it into the cinematic language. After working on it, it came out amazing.
How did it feel to go to Srikakulam and meet the people there?
-This story was initially told to me as an idea. To adapt to the character, we need to know their lifestyle. To find out that, we went to meet them directly. After doing all the homework, I was convinced that I could do it, and the journey began.
Bunny Vasu said that you put your heart and soul into this film. Do you think you will go to the next level as an actor?
-Every actor wants to get better with each film. However, since this story has a real-life character, I was even more motivated. This film gave me the opportunity to go to the next step as an actor. I have been working on the script and my transformation for almost eight months. I took tuitions for the Srikakulam dialect. I found the dialect really challenging.
The reason for choosing the role of Raju?
- I have always wanted to do films based on real-life stories. Moreover, this is a story of our Telugu people. It inspired me so much. I like to do rooted stories.
About director Chandoo?
-This is my third film with Chandoo. I like to travel with him. He tries to present me in a new way. He thinks only for me. He worked very hard to make this film commercially.
How much scope does the love story have in it?
- ‘Thandel’ is an out and out love story. There are many layers added with the love story has base.
What is the meaning of ‘Thandel’?
- From Srikakulam, they go to Gujarat, take boats on lease, do fishing there, make money and return. ‘Thandel’ means leader. This is a Gujarati word. We shot the film almost entirely in the sea. Shooting in real locations is also a big plus for my performance. The jail episodes will be very emotional.
You are doing a movie again in Geetha Arts, will 100% Love magic be repeated?
- Yes. I think it will be a path breaking film for me as an actor. I have always wanted to do a film again in Geetha Arts. They will give a great release and look after the actor very well. They always work to deliver a good film. Doing this story with Geetha Arts is like double bonanza to me.
About Sai Pallavi?
- Pallavi is a fantastic actor. I love acting with Pallavi. She has a great positive energy. She understands the character deeply. When you have a co-artist like that, your performance also gets enhanced.
About Devi Sri's music?
-The song Bujji Thalli given by Devi took the film into the grass roots level. All the songs became super hits. It is always a pleasure to work with Devi. Every film I have done with him have become musical hits.
How did it feel doing a survival drama along with a love story?
-Very challenging. There is a love story in it. There are also mass elements. It felt very inspiring. There is a pain in every honest love story. We presented that pain well in this. The emotional high the story has is very new and fresh. This is a film that gave me a lot of satisfaction as an actor.
What was Aamir Khan's reaction?
- Aamir liked the trailer a lot. Even though their son's film was releasing on the 7th, he liked the trailer and came to the event. Karthi also liked the content.
About Shamdat's visuals?
- He gave beautiful visuals. I wanted to work with him after watching Virupaksha. Luckily, it worked out, and I want to work with the same team for my next film as well.
About Namo Namah Shivaya song?
- You have to work hard to dance with Sai Pallavi. (Laughs) But we enjoyed working a lot. The theme of that song is also on the love story of Shiva and Parvati. Our characters in the film were also inspired by Shiva and Parvati. That's why we incorporated the song with such romantic theme.
When you make real life stories, there is a greater chance of getting awards.. What are your expectations about this film?
-I haven't thought about awards yet. But Aravind garu said that he will send it to the National Awards after the release. I didn't think about it that much. Entertaining the audience is the most important thing for me. I have a very good bond with Aravind garu. Aravind garu, Vasu, and I have been travelling since the beginning of my career.
What kind of memories did Thandel give you?
-It was very emotional when I met the real life fishermen. I spent a lot of time with them. I saw an honesty in them. When you are honest, you can achieve anything.
-A lot of things happened during the shooting. Once, our boat collapsed. When we went to Kerala, the coast guard arrested all the cameramen there and took them away. There are a lot to share, but not at this moment.
What about Raju's character?
- Raju is a fighter. When he was in jail, how he endured the pain and fought for his family, his fellow people and how he came out is highly inspiring. His love gives him the strength to cross all the hurdles.
