After the gritty visual worlds of KGF and Salaar, Prashanth Neel appears ready to explore a different cinematic texture with Dragon. Headlined by Jr NTR alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Anil Kapoor and Biju Menon, the film is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts. Ravi Basrur composes the soundtrack while Bhuvan Gowda serves as cinematographer. 

But the movie glimpse received major criticism that it looks similar to his previous films. Speaking about the project in an interaction with Baradwaj Rangan, Neel revealed that he consciously avoided repeating the visual language associated with his previous films. While his earlier work became synonymous with dark palettes and rugged staging, the director suggested that Dragon demanded a fresher atmosphere.

The glimpse released by the makers already hints at a broader visual sweep, with retro-inspired imagery and expansive staging creating curiosity around the film’s setting and scale. Neel explained that he prefers allowing the emotional tone of a story to dictate its visual identity instead of imposing the same filmmaking template onto every project.

That approach could make Dragon one of the most visually distinct films in Neel’s career — not by abandoning his signature intensity, but by evolving it into something new. Dragon is slated for release on June 11, 2027.
