Sree Vishnu has been delivering good hits with entertainers. He has been choosing different backdrops to deliver comical entertainers and now, he has come up with Comrade Kalyan. Let's discuss about the film in detail.
Plot:
Kalyan (Sree Vishnu) runs an old theatre in his village. As the village is driven by wave of communism, he tries to cash it all in by playing R. Narayana Murthy films. On the other hand, IPS Officer (Shine Tom Chacko) ruthlessly hunts for naxals. Kalyan falls in love with Oriya girl, Sithara (Mahima Nambiar).
Meanwhile, his mother (Radhikaa) keeps sprouting trouble for him by getting involved into petty cases. He thinks Dubai Babu (Satya) can only help him to grow big in life. Sithara reveals that her brother left them in huge debt and the lender is forcing her to marry. Kalyan decides to pay on behalf of her but ends up becoming Comrade Kalyan. Why? What happens next? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Sree Vishnu tries his best to infuse life into the material but the script doesn't really give me any scope. Even his dialogue delivery is becoming monotonous and he needs to come out of that mould to surprise audiences. Mahima Nambiar is good in few scenes but her make-up did not suit her.
Radhikaa Sarath Kumar, Sudharshan are wasted while Satya and Vennela Kishore try but fail. Shine Tom Chacko hammed his way throughout. Bhanu and Nandu have proved to be skilled writers before but this one demanded even more nuances but they couldn't deliver.

Vijai Bulganin music is good but BGM could have been better. The story and screenplay of the film are inspired from several 80's style films and hence, they tried to place it in that timeline. Still, the people who watch are in 2026 and the story is completely predictable. Each scene tests patience with jokes being unfunny and one-liners being too old school.
Janakiram Marella seem to have tried hard to showcase his vision in framing and blocking but he did not set the pace right. The old school style narrative just feels lackluster at many places. Still, makers kept the runtime crisp and production values are good. People who don't mind such old school story might give it a try.
Positives:
Sree Vishnu's timing in few scenes
Satya in Dubai Shaik scenes
Songs
Production Values
Negatives:
Lethargic Narrative
Predictable screenplay
Lackluster one-liners
Monotonous Sree Vishnu mannerisms
Bottomline: Very Old Wine but not in a new bottle.
Rating: 2.25/5
