Ravana will be distinct from all previous iterations - Yash

Nov 3, 2026 1:55PM

Yash is set to present a distinctive interpretation of Ravana in director Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious adaptation of Ramayana. While Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi essays Sita, Yash has approached the legendary antagonist by exploring his psychological depth, internal contradictions and multiple personalities rather than merely relying on his larger-than-life image.

Speaking about his interpretation, Yash revealed that he conceptualised the ten heads as distinct identities, each with its own physical appearance and voice. "I wanted to have a different voice. I could have played it in the same voice, but the idea was to imagine that each personality could speak or look differently," he explained. He further added, "No matter how we present ourselves, we have so many dilemmas in our head. We wanted our interpretation to be a very unique, epic and special one."

Interestingly, the actor also found a personal connection with the character's multifaceted personality. "All my friends say that it's quite like my head. I do multiple jobs, I like taking on new things," he shared. Yash also explored Ravana's behavioural nuances, including his patience and sarcasm.

"Ravana is ready with an answer but lets others complete. He doesn't respect yet he tries to not show it. Like this, we took a grounded approach." Reflecting on the experience, he said, "What we bring in as an actor is to understand the person who he was, and I think I had a blast in understanding Ravana."

Produced by Namit Malhotra, DNEG and Yash on a lavish scale, Ramayana is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5. The film has generated tremendous anticipation, with advance bookings reportedly witnessing a phenomenal response across markets. Dil Raju's SVC is distributing the film in the Telugu states.
