Updated : Sep 3, 2025

Director A.R. Murugadoss returns to the silver screen with his highly anticipated film, Madharaasi, after a five-year hiatus. The director clarified that the break was not one of inactivity, but rather a result of a major animation project that didn't come to fruition. This experience, he said, fueled his resolve to craft a compelling and powerful live-action story.

In a recent interview, Murugadoss offered a deeper look into the film, revealing it tackles a serious, modern issue that is new to India but common in Western countries. He emphasized his meticulous approach to the narrative and his excitement over the stellar cast. A key decision, he noted, was casting actor Sivakarthikeyan. Murugadoss stated, "Sivakarthikeyan's image has grown significantly among mass audiences. I believe that if I deliver this message through a mass hero, it will reach a larger audience."

The director also praised his re-collaboration with actor Vidyut Jammwal, who was so impressed by the script that he agreed to return to a villainous role. Murugadoss assured audiences of a spectacular cinematic experience, highlighting the astonishing action sequences and the brilliant score by Anirudh Ravichander, which he says "takes the film to the next level."

Murugadoss concluded by expressing his pride in the global rise of South Indian cinema, attributing it to a passionate audience and world-class content. He believes the industry is poised to continue its worldwide impact. Madharaasi is set to release on September 5th and expressed his desire to see it achieve universal appreciation. The movie online bookings have opened but reception is not as huge as Amaran from Sivakarthikeyan.
